Diaper Cover FAQ's
(1) How do I use Thirsties Diaper Covers and Duo Wraps?
Use Thirsties covers/wraps over lampin, prefolds, or fitted cloth diapers, making sure that the cloth diaper is properly tucked into the edges of the diaper cover. The diaper cover protects against leaks and blow-outs!
For the Duo Wraps, adjust the rise of the Thirsties to fit your baby before putting them on him/her.

If you use disposable diapers, you will still find Thirsties useful: use Thirsties over your disposable diapers at night or whenever else you need additional protection from leaks.
(2) Which size Thirsties should I buy?
6 to 12 lbs (3 - 5.5 kgs) - Extra small/Size One
12 to 18 lbs (5.5 - 8 kgs) - Small/Size One
18 to 28 lbs (8 - 12.5 kgs) - Medium/Size Two
28 to 40 lbs (12.5 - 18 kgs) - Large/Size Two
(3) How long wil each size last?
Babies vary greatly in size and shape, but following average weight gain:
Extra small - birth to approximately 4 months old
Small - 4 months old to appoximately 9 months old
Medium - 9 months old to approximately 26 months old
Large - 26 months old to about 4.5 years old
Size One - birth to approximately 9 months old
Size Two - 9 months old to approximately 3 years old or older
This is based on international reference standards; average Filipino babies may be a little smaller in size. Please also note that breastfed babies gain weight more quickly than formula-fed babies in the first three months of life, then gain weight more slowly than formula-fed babies from 3 to 12 months old.
(4) I'm happy with disposables. Why should I use cloth diapers?
Cloth diapers are better for baby. Cloth diapers don't contain harsh chemicals. Cloth-diapered babies get diaper rash less frequently! In contrast, disposable diapers contain dioxin (a probable carcinogen) and TBT, a toxic chemical that harms people's immune and hormonal systems. Studies have also linked disposable diapers to asthma symptoms and possible lower sperm count in males.
Cloth diapers are better for you. They're cheaper: 24 lampin and 4 Thirsties diaper covers (good for about 6 months) will cost you around P4000, while 6 months' worth of disposable diapers costs P11000 - P18000! Cloth-diapered babies are also easier to potty-train!
Cloth diapers are better for Mother Earth. You won't be adding disposable nappies to our already over-burdened landfills.
(5) How many Thirsties diaper covers should I buy?
If you plan to use cloth diapers exclusively, 4 to 6 is a good number for a baby, and 2 to 3 covers for a toddler.
If you plan to mix cloth diapers and disposables (e.g., cloth in the morning/daytime; disposables when out and at night), you can get by with just 2 to 4 covers for a baby, and 2 covers for a toddler.
(6) Do I need to change the Thirsties diaper cover each time I change baby's nappy?
Not necessarily. The great thing about Thirsties diaper covers is that they have an inner laminate that can be wiped clean after baby has wet his nappy. That means that each Thirsties diaper cover can be used through two or even three nappy changes!
(7) How do I wash Thirsties diaper covers?
You can just toss them into the washing machine with your cloth diapers and dry on low-heat. You can also hand-wash and line-dry them.
